Covid-19 and School at Level 3
We trust you are all safe and well.
The Government has announced that we will move into Alert Level 3 on 28 April. That means we will be open to receive students from the 29 April.
The key message for you is that if you can, you should keep your child at home in your bubble. The school is open to support families whose parents have to return to work away from home. You should only physically send your child to school if you need to. If your child has a health condition that means they are at a greater risk of a severe illness and you must keep them at home. If your child is sick, please also ensure you keep them at home. I want to assure you that we will continue to support your child’s learning at home. We have been getting some great feedback about the learning that is happening at home, and thank you for all your support.
In order to ensure the safety of those children and our staff who do come to school, we will be operating with strict enforcement of health and safety measures. The school will look very different and will be very isolating for children. Students will be carrying on with the distance learning set by their regular teachers in a small group of up to ten that will include siblings and a mixture of ages. They will have designated play areas and won’t be able to play sport or be on the playgrounds. They will have to maintain social distancing of 2 metres at all times. Children in different bubbles cannot mix so they may not get to see or spend time with their friends. I have attached a resource here for parents to view with any children who may have to return to school at this time, please click here.
There will be staggered start and end times to the school day for different bubbles, and children will not be allowed on site outside of those times. The first bubble will start entry at 8:30am – no child will be allowed on the school premises before this time, and the last student bubble will leave the site at 2:50pm each day. The school office will be closed to the public, and parents will not be allowed to enter the school gates. We will be establishing a bubble roll, and families will have had to register their child’s attendance with us before they can physically start. Children cannot come to school without a signed parental agreement in order to keep our bubbles safe. Further guidelines around this will follow for the families of those children needing to return to school.
This will help us work through the public health requirements that we all need to meet. As you will be doing, we want to be sure that what we do will keep our community as safe as possible.
Please inform the school by email to pkanara@hurupaki.school.nz if you need to have your child return to school in Level 3. You must contact the school first to allow us to follow school procedures at this time, and to establish when on-site enrolment can be facilitated. For now, we will continue to support your child’s learning by distance and inform you of updates as they become available. Please keep connecting with your teachers with any questions you might have. Please continue to stay home and stay safe to break the chain of transmissions.
Take care of yourself and those in your bubble.
